We were approached by Showtime to design an opening, full CGI treatment for the Dexter finale season promo.
Starting from the love for our reel intro, we finesse and improve it much more by working closely with Jason Hogg, super talented Art Director at Showtime in order to make it bloodier, darker, and menacing.
In a nutshell, we tried to go for a stylized comic illustration style alongside 3D cinematography. We created several custom passes for each characters. The outline, rim lights, shadows, and certain effect needs to be fully adjustable that we can have full control over the images. Below are some storyboard we did to visualize how director envision the shots:
The whole sequence was meant to be shot "freeze-time" or "bullet-time", so we instead of rendering everything in 1000 fps, what we have done is to simulate the water slower, manually keyframe the rain and then we rendered it in Vray.
